The Tony Race So Far: Best Featured in a Play

The Tonys are almost upon us and with most the eligible shows either already opened or in previews, most of the races are starting to take shape.

Over the next couple of days, we'll show you how where the nominations for the major categories will land. Today we're looking at the Best Featured Actors and Actresses in a Play.

Best Featured Actress in a Play

In a particularly competitive year for drama, there area a number of performances that could earn a nod. But the following are those who should be getting invites to the big night.

  • Enid Graham - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
  • Geneva Carr - Hand To God
  • Judith Roberts - Airline Highway
  • Claire Higgins - A Delicate Balance
  • Patricia Clarkson - The Elephant Man

Clarkson, Graham and Higgins should be locks in this category. Given the incredible buzz and reviews that Hand To God is receiving, expect Carr to be on this list given her hailed performance. Roberts is the dark horse, while the production opens on April 23rd, her name is already being thrown around in these circles. Her character in Airline Highway appears later in the show but according the the reviews during its Chicago run, it's a showstopping performance.

Other possible nominees:

  • Annaleigh Ashford - You Can't Take It With You

Best Featured Actor in a Play

  • Micah Stock - It's Only a Play
  • Mark Kudisch - Hand To God
  • Alessandro Nivola - The Elephant Man
  • Bryce Pinkham - The Heidi Chronicles
  • Bob Balaban - A Delicate Balance

Stock, Balaban and Nivola should be locks considering the high marks they've received. Kudisch is also a good money bet as well. Pinkham should slide into the last slot given his performance.

Other possible nominees:

  • K. Todd Freeman - Airline Highway
  • Josh Radnor - Disgraced
  • Richard McCabe - The Audience
