Winners for the 37th Annual Shellie Awards

Carlos Rodriguez

The 37th Annual “Shellie Awards” was held at the Lesher Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 16, 2016. It was an exciting night where a big chunk of the Bay Area actors, designers, choreographers, patrons, etc got together to celebrate the theatre arts. The Shellie awards were founded to recognize outstanding achievement in the Central Contra Costa/ Diablo Valley region. Besides the fact that it's an award ceremony much like the Tony awards, it’s more of a big rally to celebrate the arts.

This was my first year attending, and it was nice seeing people who I have once seen on the stage in the surrounding theaters. I immediately felt really comfortable greeting all of the actors and friends I worked with, and being genuinely proud of our work that we have accomplished. Attending one of these events definitely puts a smile on your face and assures you that the Theater Arts are not a dying art instead, it's the opposite. Theater has flourished into something beautiful. I am glad I attended to celebrate over 120 individual nominee’s who have contributed to amazing shows.
