New Leading Players Take Over Hamilton

Life is hard. You have tickets to the hottest ticket to hit Broadway since the Book of Mormon. Or perhaps (if you're of the tamer theatre-going variety and prefer your smash hits without hysterically blasphemous overtones) the classical musical comedy, The Producers. But who is going to be in Hamilton when you see it between now and 2020 (or whenever you managed to snag a ticket)?

This past week, a new round of actors were announced to take over various roles both in the Broadway company and at one of the first and biggest stops on its upcoming national tour, Chicago. Also this week it was announced that in addition to the titans Lin Manuel-Miranda and Leslie Odom, Jr. departing, also leaving the company are Tony Award-winner Daveed Diggs (Jefferson/Lafayette) and Tony Award-winner Renee Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler). Both actors received their first Tony Awards for their roles in Hamilton.

Surely by now, unless you're under a Broadway rock, you would know that the captain of the juggernaut ship S.S. Hamilton (Lin Manuel Miranda) played his final performance on Sunday, July 10th; exactly one month after personally garnering 3 trophies himself at this year's 70th annual tony awards (Best Score, Best Book, and Best Musical). Heck, his locks even began trending the following Monday morning all over the internet when the actor promptly got himself an updated sans-Alexander hairdo.

But just breathe. You at least had advanced warning of Lin’s impending departure.  You have accepted it and you're sure that his alternate/standby who is taking over the role from him, Javier Munoz, will be AMAZEBALLS (as the kids say) in the role.

But what of the other leading players. Who will be King George in Chicago? Eliza on Broadway? Not to worry: we have you covered. Here is a quick guide of everyone you need to know concerning your next trip to Hamilton, whether it be on Broadway or elsewhere. And stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks as more replacements and tour cast members are announced.  Ok, here we go!
