Ten Tenors that are Gifts to the World

Melody Nicolette

We’re doing a series that celebrates some of the very best voices for their vocal ranges, with a primary focus on (but not limited to!) theatre. Many will be well-known, while others you may not have heard of (until now). Hopefully, these lists will showcase a wide variety within the vocal classifications, to show there is no single way to create beautiful art!

Here are 10 tenors that are glorious gifts to the world!

In no particular order:

Ian Patrick Gibb (LEZ MIZ, JOSEPH…., HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME)

He also has two incredible albums out: Fill in the Words, The Time of Year for Miracles

Kevin Massey ( TARZAN, BIG RIVER, GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE)

Arbender Robinson (LES MIZ, BOOK OF MORMON, LION KING, SHUFFLE ALONG)

Hugh Panaro (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LES MIZ, SWEENEY TODD)

Bonus: his lower registers (especially singing from or as Sweeney) sounds like Vauxhall and I -era Morrissey.

Peter Lockyer (LES MIZ, MISS SAIGON)

Victor Garber ( SWEENEY TODD, ASSASSINS, GODSPELL)

Rodney Ingram (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, ALADDIN)

Maurice Clarke (BRIGADOON, LES MIZ)

Adam Lambert (BRIGADOON, WICKED, HAIR)

Known mostly for his American Idol run and solo recording career, Lambert started out in theatre. He also occasionally fronts for Queen.

Speaking of Queen…..

Freddie Mercury

I tried to keep these lists to living people, however, Mercury remains one of the greatest singers of all time--his (known) vocal range extended from F2 to F6. The man was truly peerless.
