Robert Downey Jr. to Make Broadway Debut This Fall

Robert Downey Jr. will make his Broadway debut this fall, starring in Pulitzer Prize-winner Ayad Akhtar's newest play, MCNEAL, at Lincoln Center Theater. Bartlett Sher will direct.

Previews will begin at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on September 5th, with an opening night on the 30th as the first Broadway production of LCT’s 40th Anniversary season. The production will play a strictly limited engagement through November 24.

The most recent Oscar winner will make his Broadway debut starring as Jacob McNeal, a great writer who struggles to connect with his estranged son while trying to complete his new novel. As old grudges rise to the surface, the shadow of Artificial Intelligence and its temptations soon consume. Further casting is to be announced.

The production will feature sets by Michael Yeargan and Jake Barton, costumes by Jennifer Moeller, lighting by Donald Holder, sound by Justin Ellington and Beth Lake, and projections by Jake Barton. Jennifer Rae Moore will be the stage manager. Lincoln Center Theater is producing in association with Team Downey, a production company Downey founded with wife Susan in 2010.

Akhtar is a Pulitzer Prize winner for his play Disgraced, in addition to credits including Junk, at the Lincoln Center, and The Who & The What.

Tickets will be available beginning May 21 at LCT.org.
