Rob Kempson, Artistic Producer of Port Hope, Ontario’s Capitol Theatre has recently announced its upcoming 2022 season.

On its Facebook page, the theatre is billed as an architectural gem, built in 1930 as one of the first theatres built for 'talking pictures'. When it opened it was touted as 'the most beautiful theatre in Canada'.

I will vouch that it is a beautiful theatre on the inside and am certainly hoping to get to see more show here.

And, here’s the upcoming 2022 season:

Beginning in March, ‘Boom’ written, directed, and performed by Rick Miller will grace the stage at the Capitol. I had the opportunity to see this production at Montreal’s Segal Centre and what a treat it was to watch Rick on the stage. This production was scheduled as part of the 2020 season before the pandemic.

The Summer production will begin in June with ‘A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline’, Dean Reagan’s tribute to the country music legend herself. In July, Mark Crawford’s ‘Stag & Doe’ will take the stage. I saw a community production of this play a few years ago and quite enjoyed it. In August and early September, Rob will direct ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ which is based on the 1980 film with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton.

Along with these theatrical shows, The Capitol has also created four additional entertainment categories for the 2022

Capitol Kitchen Party will feature live bluegrass, country, Celtic and roots music in the Sculthorpe Theatre, while Capitol Concerts will be held in the Festival Theatre downstairs. Capitol Cabaret will feature intimate musical performances from “stages across the country”. Capitol On Screen will include TIFF films throughout the year, as well as on-screen performances of the MetOpera Live. The Capitol also hopes to bring back broadcasts of National Theatre Live.
