The Stagehands Project - Finger Lakes Inch-High Players

This week, The Stagehands Project is looking to raise funds for the Finger Lakes Inch-High Players!

Finger Lakes Inch- high Players was born out of an idea that creator and founder Kim Brown had for area youth to create their own version of shows and for the kids to have hands-on involvement in all areas of the production while being mentored and supervised by adults with different areas of theatre expertise.

The organization now includes three separate branches, FLIPs- a community theatre group; FLIPs: In the Light Daycamp; and FLIPs: After Dark... (ages 18 and older). Their organization also provides opportunities for area high school students to participate in an Internship program and earn 100 hours of community service. They also partner with Seneca County Workforce Development and are a workforce site each summer.

While they have been performing steadily for 10 years, this group doesn't have a theatre of their own and often rents a space with the local Elks club. The costs of the renting the space, as well as all other production costs have been growing.

Our hope is that the funds raised for "FLIPs" will help offset the costs of renting these spaces as well as grow their branches of entertainment, especially their daycamp.

I hope you'll join us this week in donating anywhere between $1 and $5 to give this group a needed boost.

You can donate at our Gofunme page here.

The Stagehands Project is Raising Money for the Cordova High School Theatre Dept.

This week, we're reaching out to help the theatre students at Cordova High School located just outside Sacremento, CA.

Funds are tight at this particular school and the theatre budget is only about $2,000 per year. That money has to cover for licensing fees, costumes, sets, etc.

The school is 69.3% Free and Reduced lunch, so asking the students and families for donations is an understandable challenge. However, the theatre program still attracts many first-time performers and tech crews.

Last year, with a generous donation from the American Theatre Wing, they produced their first musical in 20 years.

The Stagehands Project - Working to Make Sure Every Show Goes On

I was recently having a conversation over coffee with a friend of mine and we were talking about the growth of OnStage Blog.

As I started rattling off the number of people who visit the site, liked our Facebook posts, followed us on Twitter, my friend nodded her head.

"That's great but what are you going to do with that?" she asked.
