Well, that did not take long.
Just days after those Paddington teaser posters started popping up around New York City, it is now official: Paddington the Musical is coming to Broadway in March 2027. The show is headed for the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, according to the production’s official site, which by the away posted the more adorable announcement video on Instagram.
So today, we rejoice.
Earlier this week, I wrote about the teaser posters and the very obvious conclusion most of us jumped to the second we saw that little bear show up around town. You do not plaster Paddington all over New York City unless something is coming. And now we know exactly what that something is.
Broadway is getting a bear.
There are certain shows you hope make the trip across the Atlantic because they feel like they could bring something different to the current landscape. Paddington feels like one of those shows.
The West End production has already been greeted with the kind of enthusiasm that makes a transfer feel less like a question and more like a matter of time.
That is part of why this news feels so welcome. Paddington is not just a cute title. He is not just a beloved character with a suitcase and a marmalade sandwich. He represents the idea that kindness is not weakness, which is a message Broadway and American audiences can certainly handle in 2027.
There will be plenty of time to talk about casting, design, ticket prices, Tony prospects(immediately becomes an odds-on favorite), and whether this bear is about to become the hottest ticket in town. Today does not need to be that day.
Today can just be about the joy of it. Please look after this bear, New York.
