Can You Dig It? ‘Warriors’ is Officially Coming to Broadway in March 2027

by Chris Peterson

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’ Warriors musical is officially coming to Broadway in March 2027, and I am going to try to be normal about this. I probably will not succeed.

An announcement was posted on their Instagram page. The show will be housed at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. It will be directed by Jenny Koons, and co-directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler.

I have loved Walter Hill’s 1979 film for years. So yes, I want to see what this becomes onstage.

The story itself is almost brutally simple. Slightly based on the Greek story, Anabasis, The Warriors are framed for killing a gang leader and have to make it from the Bronx back to Coney Island with the rest of the city looking for them.

Miranda and Davis have already shown, with the concept album, that they are not approaching this as a museum piece. What I hope Broadway audiences get is something a little dangerous, a little odd, and fully awake to the weird mythology of the original.

The Warriors has lasted because it feels both specific to late-70s New York and completely unreal. It is urban legend as chase movie.

For a Broadway season that always has its share of safe bets, this one has the potential to be something stranger. March 2027 cannot get here soon enough.
