Scottish Paramedic Fired After Missing Shift to Go to Theatre Rehearsal

This is a first for me. There is news coming out of Scotland that a paramedic has been fired from his job after it was found out that he had skipped part of his shift to attend rehearsals for an upcoming community theatre musical.

According to The Sun, Craig Young had recently been cast in the musical, “Anything Goes” at the Southern Light Opera. According to an internal probe, during his shift, did not make contact for over an hour and even parked his emergency vehicle outside the theatre to attend rehearsal.

Following a probe, Mr. Young confessed to attending the rehearsal and was fired.

Co-workers were shocked.

“Craig is an urgent care paramedic which means he attends the most serious of jobs,” one said. “He was on shift being paid to help people, but decided to go to the theatre.”

The production ran from March 3rd to March 7th.

Especially when talking about community theatre, it’s never worth risking your full time job over. He probably should have put that on his conflict sheet.
