Before last night’s performance of the Broadway revival of West Side Story, a group of about a dozen protesters gathered outside to peacefully voice their outrage over the casting of Amar Ramasar in the show. And their display did not go unnoticed.

While I will not go see the show, those who have told me that rather than doing individual curtain call bows, the cast of the revival of West Side Story is bowing as one big ensemble. Now, this could be for a number of reasons. But for me, the reason why they’re doing this is to protect Amar Ramasar.

For many Broadway fans, this weekend is their Super Bowl. Yes, BroadwayCon is exploding in New York City at the Midtown Hilton where fans from all over the world will converge for three days of theatre heaven. So for people coming for the first time, what are some tips to help navigate the convention to get your money’s worth?

The Connecticut local theater community was rocked this week by allegations of sexual misconduct by a man who had served as a director, designer and technical director for multiple theater organizations. The three victims of the alleged abuse filed lawsuits against not only their perpetrator, Dan Checovetes, but also the four area theaters. Now, serious questions of how this was allowed to happen need to be asked.

I have never been one of those people who love auditioning-- there are too many unknown factors, too many decisions that I am forced to make based on pure speculation. Hopefully, the following six tips will help calm your nerves and make your next audition process smooth and successful.

Site-specific theater is not a new concept, but it’s ‘newer’ for some audiences in America. In the UK, immersive and site-specific theater is as ubiquitous as more traditional theatrical performances.  Much like the fringe circuit, these performances exemplify the concept that a performance only needs an engaging story. The fancy bells and whistles, the expensive scenery and costumes aren’t necessarily needed to make a great play or performance.  It always must be about the commitment to the story.
