“On Sunday, the much anticipated (and expensive) revival of ‘Cabaret’ opened on Broadway. Critics had the chance to state their thoughts on the show. Let’s say their reactions were mixed.”

Bigots on a Pennsylvania school board have canceled an upcoming appearance by actor and author Maulik Pancholy after some cited concerns about what they described as his “lifestyle.”

“I urge any theatre group thinking about doing the same to have actual plans ready before auditions/registration even begins. Because when there’s not, it can lead to irreparable problems that could result in kids never wanting to do theatre again, and that’s a shame.”

Many of us work full-time jobs, what I refer to as a vocation to support our avocations. I can’t tell you how many times people ask me after seeing a show or hearing I am in a show, “How much do you get paid for doing this?” Of course, in community theatre, the answer is nothing. The look of surprise on their faces is astounding.
