OnScreen Review: 'Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice' - An Emotional Reflection
Released in late 2019, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice was shown in theatres. It’s now available to stream and purchase on physical media as well. It’s very touching to hear her in her own words, and how humble she is, even having been one of the biggest superstars in the world, while some of the world’s other biggest superstars have nothing but glowing accolades and the utmost respect for her.
Finding Life Lessons in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse"
“We are all on our own journeys. Those closest to us might not know when we are struggling. Don’t wait for them to call you, for them to check in on you. It's really OK to reach out to them to ask for help. Even superheroes do it sometimes.”
OnScreen Review: "Cats" is really not that bad
I wish there would have been more ‘good moments’ in this Cats as there could have been. Sigh.
OnScreen Review: "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker"
“J.J. Abrams and company do their best here, but they are too beholden to fan service and trying to satisfy everyone that the final result is a movie that is a jack of all trades, master of none.”
OnScreen Review: "Jumanji: The Next Level"
“Jumanji: The Next Level is exactly the kind of action adventure movie that works well on the big screen and has wide audience appeal and should be a crowd pleaser like its predecessor.”
OnScreen Review: "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"
“If there was a mantle for the legacy of Jimmy Stewart, Hanks would probably be the one to have that mantle. He has an earnestness and sincerity and generosity as an actor that suits him well for this role.”
OnScreen Review: "Jojo Rabbit"
“Waititi is a gifted comedic mind, as anyone who has seen any of his work outside of Thor: Ragnarok well knows, so it’s not a surprise that he would do something unconventional as his next project. Jojo Rabbit is certainly unconventional, but also of a piece with some of his earlier films.”
What Is The Best Order To Watch Star Wars?
No one can seem to agree on what the best order is for watching these movies to maximize the viewing experience. Do you start with Episode I and work your way through the chronology of the story? Do you go in chronological order of when the movies were released? I give you the definitive order for watching Star Wars, from a certain point of view.
OnScreen Review: "Knives Out"
Knives Out is a delectable film, full of clever twists and laughs. Rian Johnson and company have put together a masterful entry in the murder mystery genre of film-making.
OnScreen Review: "Frozen II"
“Frozen II is sure to be a hit with kids; and for parents, well, at least they will have some newer songs to throw into the Frozen playlist rotation. It’s a little darker, and a little less fresh, but it is a suitable sequel.”
Does Netflix + Nickelodeon = Animorphs Reboot?
I was a Nickelodeon kid, which is why the news that Netflix and Nickelodeon were teaming up really piqued my curiosity. I recently started watching episodes of “Doug,” “Rugrats,” and “Hey, Arnold!” on Hulu, and I suppose those will move to Netflix, now. And, there will be new creations, like recent Netflix movies featuring characters from the Nicktoons “Hey, Arnold!” and “Rocko’s Modern Life.” I don’t want to get my hopes up, but there is one particular thing I would love to see happen as a result of this partnership: a new TV adaptation of “Animorphs.”
OnScreen Review: "Parasite"
Like most Bong Joon-ho films, Parasite is multi-faceted and a bit of a genre-bender; a dark, bubbling concoction of comedy, drama, and thriller that is loaded with social commentary.
OnScreen Review: "Terminator: Dark Fate"
“As good of a movie as Terminator: Dark Fate is, I walked out of the movie more convinced than ever that they never should have made another sequel after T2. Try as it might to paper over the last three films, it ultimately can’t undo that original sin of making any movie beyond T2.”
In Defense of Rotten Tomatoes
Rotten Tomatoes is our most indispensable movie review site, and dismissing it is starting to become normal. Its time to remember why its so vital to our discussion of movies.
OnScreen Review: "The Lighthouse"
“Pattinson and Dafoe both give towering, memorable, and haunting performances. This film keeps you off balance all the way through its hallucinatory decent.”
OnScreen Review: "Zombieland: Double Tap"
“Zombieland: Double Tap keeps things lively enough to keep things entertaining and prevent everything from decomposing and being completely braindead.”
OnScreen Review: "Joker"
“Joker is a film that wants to challenge audiences, wants to provoke, and wants to be great. Joaquin Phoenix has moments where he is mesmerizing but as compelling as he is there are just as many elements of this film that are problematic or provocative just for the sake of being provocative.”
OnScreen Review: "Ford v Ferrari"
“The racing is thrilling, the lead performers are engaging and having fun, and it tells a compelling underdog story of the Ford racing team vs. the world. It’s a genuine crowd-pleaser.”
