Eva Noblezada Discusses Shining to Your True Potential
Kevin Ray Johnson
It is my honor to introduce you to Eva Noblezada. Eva is a two-time Tony Award-Nominated Actress for her work as Kim in the revival of Miss Saigon and most recently as Eurydice in Hadestown. Eva has also starred on the West End in Miss Saigon (Kim) and Les Miserables (Eponine)! Eva was first discovered while she was a high school student in Charlotte, North Carolina by Tara Rubin when she was performing at the Jimmy Awards in 2013!
Eva is one of those performers who you truly remember for years after seeing them perform. To say that it is an honor to interview this talented young lady is a true understatement. Her advice and outlook on this business are so wonderful!
How old were you when you knew you wanted to have a career in the performing arts?
I was making a lot of noise from when I was a little girl. My mom told me that I would sing Mulan all around the house. When I was 9 I wanted to be an opera singer! And then when I was 11, I came across the world of musical theatre. and my life was forever changed.
Are there any people and or mentors who helped you on your journey?
Of course. My auntie, Annette Calud who was in Sesame Street and Miss Saigon was and still is a huge mentor. She helped coach me for my Miss Saigon audition and she’s always been a huge support in my life! My family, of course, are a huge part of why I’m where I am today. Thank god for their loving encouragement. Also, many wonderful actors and actresses that I watched growing up inspired me to follow my passion!
We are all living in a very unprecedented time. How have these times been for you and what is your daily routine like now?
Oh yeah, it’s crazy! The beginning of this time was extremely stressful and scary! It still is…but I’ve forced myself to try and take every emotion as it comes and really breathing through my day. When I feel like I start to go stir crazy, I do something or watch something that helps completely change my mood. I’ll put on a TV show that makes me really happy or do ten pushups. It’s like having to constantly sparkle good stuff on my brain. I also love a drink. But who doesn’t? I’ve also been falling in love with painting and writing music again!
Your career has been so inspiring for so many people. I have seen your amazing work as Kim and Eurydice in Miss Saigon and Hadestown respectively and was blown away each time. Is there a show or performance that you have done in your career that will always stick out and be near and dear to your heart?
Thank you! I can say that Hadestown is extremely special. I miss it so much! It was so special and empowering singing those songs and having that powerful connection with my castmates! Telling that story every night changed my life. And I miss it more than words could say.
What advice would you give any young aspiring artist during these crazy times?
I would say that remember you, as the human, are more important than your accomplishments. You need all of you to do create moments of authenticity on stage. You deserve it first. You deserve the best. Never let anybody keep you from shining to your true potential.
