This past year was a benchmark for OnStage Blog with us starting to review the fantastic theatre scene in Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Our critic, Shawn Stalter, was able to see multiple great productions and what follows are his top five for 2018. We cannot wait to see what 2019 will bring.

“Brick Road Theatre’s production of “Mamma Mia!” offered the powerful and energetic blast of warm island air this rain-soaked Dallas-Fort Worth-area crowd desperately needed on an otherwise dreary Friday night. “It was easy to fall head over heels in love with the lively vocal stylings, polished choreography and romantic exchanges exuding from this talented cast. 3.  “Cats” at Art Centre Theatre

“This production’s meticulous attention to scenery details and stage construction instantly transports the audience to the Jellicle Cats’ junkyard kingdom. Once its inhabitants discover the presence of a human audience, they launch into a delightful procession of songs and dances explaining the world through their eyes. The mischievous, the brave, the magical and glamorous cats of yesteryear parade before the audience in a feast for the senses.”

Through this production’s passionate jubilee, talented performers, both young and old, took us on a spirited journey to find redemption through acts of love and kindness. “

  1. “Next to Normal” at Casa Manana

“Casa Manana’s exceptional performance of the emotionally evocative 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical,” Next to Normal,” plunges headlong into the turbulent waters of a modern suburban family battling the painful, life-altering effects of mental illness. Through an intimate, roller coaster exploration of the twists, turns, peaks and steep plunges of the mind, “Next to Normal” dives deep to unmask the face of those struggling with depression, isolation, anxiety, loneliness and more.”
