‘Mno Bimaadiziwin’ explores briefly the lives of characters as they prepare for a sweat lodge ceremony. I’m going to be honest and say I had no idea what it was and I’m pleased to have learned it here.

‘The Home Project’ is a welcome return home to live theatre in Toronto’s Distillery District especially considering all the social changes and movements of the last eighteen months.

“Ms. Patterson is the epitome of a star – any of her many fans who have stage doored her shows and anyone who has worked with her in any capacity can attest to that. But she is the kind of star we should all aspire to be – not just because of what she can do in a pair of tap shoes, but because of her generosity of spirit, and kind but unflinching honesty.”

“What the Blue Man Group show did on opening night was to welcome people back to what they had missed and to remind them that no matter how otherly someone might look, it is possible to share a community and to celebrate the world we share.”

The evening had a true “cabaret” style feel to it with some high barstool seating and a rustic circular stage with red drapery. Dixon’s opening wail on the harp produced the infectious beginning.

The strength in Ms. Johnson’s script [Serving Elizabeth] is in the constant interplay between the two plots. This is also a strength of the costumes. They define characters and the generations.

I listened to some mighty impressive choral work that ventured into a sometimes angry, sometimes bitter, tirade against we baby boomers as to how we are responsible and should be ashamed of ourselves for the choices made over forty, fifty years ago that have now made our planet sick.

“Thrown Stones’s mission statement includes that they “honor and celebrate local character, culture, and history.” And, they strive “to engage our region with new and reimagined theatre in intimate settings, creating a body of work that moves, connects, and challenges all who join the conversation.” This production certainly embodied these values.”

“The Earth Moves is another great audio play by Mac Rogers that takes a giant worldwide disaster and filters it through the lens of a radio show. Giving us a very small story that feels massive by the end.”

David Danzon moves beyond just a mere representation of a trademark stock character. His ethereally fascinating Pierrot remained enchantingly haunting for me during the hour-long production.

‘So Take A Break’ of being cooped up at home and buy tickets to one of the most epic and award-winning American musicals in history. It will leave you “Satisfied” and “Blow Us All Away.”

“Sometimes what you really need from a night at the theater is to sit back with a smile, enjoy old favorites and leave humming or singing the songs from the night. It’s one reason why Mamma Mia is such a popular musical that can draw big crowds—as it did on the opening night of Music Theater Works production at their new venue, the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, north of Chicago.”

After watching actor and playwright Mark Crawford’s terrific opening night performance of ‘Chase the Ace’ with the Festival Players at Bloomfield’s Eddie Farm in Prince Edward County, one thing came abundantly clear to me.

“‘The Karens’ sets up a world where the three characters we are following are larger-than-life-wacky characters that we can enjoy engaging with. However, just as we are getting comfortable and laughing along, it hits us with some startlingly poignant truths.”

With courage and boldness the festival produced Tomson Highway’s 1986 searing story of ‘The Rez Sisters’, a complex and weighty play

The Guild’s production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ vibrantly shone for me on this dog day summer opening night in Scarborough, despite one rust spot quibble that I will address shortly.

What made this opening night performance flow swimmingly is the synergistic chemistry between Mark Weatherley and Monique Lund. They establish a natural and realistic authenticity in their sometimes off-beat behaviour with each other…

A joyous and rapturous afternoon or evening of entertainment which allowed me to enter so many lives in Stratford in such a short time through song and story. Wonderful and glorious. Please get tickets for this.

As the Friar, Alex Bulmer strongly anchors and roots this play in durable believability. This friar never leaves the stage at all. Alex is blind but this does not detract at all from an energized performance level…
