While musical theater has made tremendous strides in schools, unfortunately, there are still many ways it is still prolonged from having a much stronger impact.

The original cult film was considered a driving force in the birth of third wave feminism and has been praised for its dark comedic look on gender roles, body positivity, and sexuality. The material has only been even more popularized by the recent musical which is one of the most produced pieces by schools and amateur groups. Which is why Paramount probably thinks the iron is hot enough for a remake that no one really wanted.

We’re doing a series that celebrates some of the very best voices for their vocal ranges, with a primary focus on (but not limited to!) theatre. Many will be well-known, while others you may not have heard of (until now). Hopefully, these lists will showcase a wide variety within the vocal classifications, to show there is no single way to create beautiful art!

Merriam-Webster recently named its word of the year “Feminism”; a move that comes as little surprise in the wake of massive social movements, most notably beginning with the Women’s March on January 20th, and culminating with the revived “MeToo” movement started by Tarana Burke over a decade ago.

It’s almost February, and high school seniors are on pace to graduate and go to college. Some of you may be the star of your last 6 high school productions and can’t wait to be a theatre major!

You may change your mind. You’re allowed to change your mind. Most college freshmen change their majors 4 times. I’m here to help with that process.

If any of the following apply to you, you might want to reconsider being a theatre major.

I’m 21, a senior in college, and until recently, I’ve really struggled with accepting my body for what it is and embracing it for what it can achieve. But theatre has helped me change that.

Like many millennials, body image and composition has consumed my thoughts more than I would care to admit. Usually, I’m strong enough to see past the depictions of beauty that do not apply to me, but I feel like there are instances in the theatre business in particular when being a certain size, shape, or color is more favorable than others. And while some stories do require certain races or body types to make a bold, powerful statement, constantly thinking like this takes a toll on any performer.

Who wouldn't want to hear Bernadette Peters' take on one of the most iconic female roles in musical theatre canon? Or Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles sing "Bad Idea"? Or Taylor Trensch's version of "Waving Through a Window"? 

I'm not even saying they have to be complete recordings, maybe just a song or two. It would not only satisfy the fanbase but also promote the show as well, which is a big reason why certain people are cast in these roles, to begin with. 

It's hard to believe we're just a week away from BroadwayCon 2018 but it's right around the corner. Thousands of theatre fans will be gathering at New York City's Javits Center for three days of panels, games, and performances. 

While there are plenty of events and guests to see, there are some that I am looking forward to the most. Here they are in no particular order broken down by which day they are.

I am a proud member of one of "those" families. My childhood photo albums are full of adventures in different locations all over the country and later, the world. I grew up in a very small town in a northern suburb of Saint Louis, Missouri. My father’s job came with the perk of traveling with clients and sometimes we would join him, so it became natural for all of us to want to explore the world outside the small town life. Later I would add my passion for theatre with my love of traveling. If there was a production I wanted to see, and I had the time off work, and had saved enough, I would book the tickets and see an amazing show and new city all at the same time.
