When critics go too far, whether it be personal attacks, invoking vendettas, body shaming, etc, they deserve to be called out for it. It takes one to know one but these individuals can wield incredible influence on indicting the quality of a play, Those who mishandle that, should be criticized just as much as the productions they're writing about. 

So without further ado, I give you "When Critics Go Too Far". We've already done one on Chicago's Hedy Weiss(who thankfully is out of a job). Today let's look at Jim Ruocco of CT, who chose to trash certain local theatres in the midst of praising another one. 

In January, due to the protests of a group of students at Ithaca High School in Ithaca, NY over the casting of a white actress in the role of Esmerelda in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", the school decided to cancel the production altogether. 

In the morning, it’s off to school or work. After maybe a couple hours of lag time, it’s off to the theatre. And by the time you’re out of rehearsal or a performance, it’s late and your stomach is growling. Crap. Guess it’s time for McDonalds again. 

Oh, the dreaded headshot! I don’t know about other actors, but just the word “headshot” makes my stomach churn. I hear “headshot” but I see dollar signs and my crooked teeth. Headshots are many things to an actor- a tool, a representation, a business card in a sense. They are also expensive, annoying, and often misunderstood. Having just had my headshots redone, the frustration is fresh in my mind. While I was fortunate enough to find a professional, affordable photographer with experience in actor headshots, I was still reminded of how delicate the process is.

There is little doubt that there are some fantastic programs in Canada. So we wanted to make sure we gave them their proper attention for any students that may be looking to study there. We base our rankings on tuition/financial aid/scholarships, curriculum, faculty, career support, basically, everything you yourself would consider before making a college choice. We even have gone as far to call admission offices to ask them questions.

Peppa Pig and friends arrive at the Marlowe Theatre tomorrow in Canterbury, England. While it's only a two day stay in the Kent theatre, PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is asking the theatre not to traumatize children attending the performances, by serving Peppa as food in Marlowe's restaurant. 

While there isn't a surefire way to be accepted by every school you audition for, there are certain mistakes that can happen that might ensure you won't be accepted by any of them. As cruel as it sounds, no matter how much preparation you put in, what happens in that room is all that matters. Here are some mistakes I've been seeing during auditions. 

When I heard that they were making “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” a musical I was really excited. The movie is VERY underrated. If you watch it with an open mind and heart you will see that there is A LOT of substance in it and it is something I feel works perfectly for the stage.

I saw the poster same as everyone else. Steven Spielberg is set to direct a remake of West Side Story with Tony Kushner providing the screenplay. Holy hell was I unprepared for the social media arguments I saw play out in my newsfeed. Apparently, there are some who believe something’s coming and it’s not all good. 

Let's be honest, nepotism is rampant in theatre communities. Whether it's professional settings, community or educational, directors casting their children in lead roles is practiced far and wide. While I don't agree with the practice and do find it more than a bit unethical, I've come to the realization that rather than getting stressed, I have two firm beliefs for those who do it
