In 2020, a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece Company will be opening on Broadway for the third time. As is usual with incarnations of this show, the creative team has assembled a cast chock full of incredible talent. However, as is also usual with incarnations of this show, the cast is almost all-white.

It’s great to see so many performing arts/acting programs that are not only concentrating on stage acting techniques but also acting in front of the camera, which only adds to a performer’s versatility.

Here are 30 college programs that we feel should be top destinations for any performing/acting student.

Those who love theater will find a way to continue to make it.  They’ll convince someone who has never seen a play to come see it and they will fall in love with the art form. The next time a show gets put up in the local community theater, they’ll spend their money to come and see it, even if they don’t know anyone involved. The important thing is that they show up.  We need them to show up.

The entertainment industry is constantly being impacted by the evolution of technology. Because of this, college theatre design and tech programs have to evolve with it. Programs are offering new classes, bringing in innovative guests and implementing the newest stage technology into their productions. Needless to say, it’s an exciting time to be in theatre design and tech.
