“Nancy Palk and I recently discussed her appearance in the play turned film ‘Catch and Release’ scheduled to be released on iTunes Canada July 14. ‘Catch and Release’ is adapted from the 1993 Pulitzer Prize nominated script ‘Keely and Du’ which was popular across Canada and the States, North America according to Ms. Palk.”

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' – Top 10 Episodes

“Though marketed as a children’s show it addresses mature themes of destiny, war, oppression, totalitarianism, coming of age, equality, and much more. Its format is also unique for a 2005-2008 cartoon in that each episode stands on its own with a clear arc and message but also fits into a larger three-season epic arc with clear challenges and goals for the characters. It’s a real hero’s journey for Aang. Here are my Top 10 Favorite Episodes.”

Anne with an Agenda

“It’s always difficult for me to start a new series when I just finished one that I adored! My brain somehow for no reasonable reason locks the idea that no other story or characters will have the same impact on me…As usual, I was wrong. The more I get to know Anne, the more she grows on me. And the same happens with the other characters that Anne meets.”

The Return of Cinemas – What Needs to be Shown – Part 1

“UK cinemas are being given access to 450 films from the archives to bulk up their schedules until the normal release slate returns. Disney Centers New 'Pirates' Franchise Around Margot Robbie, Forgetting that Zoe Saldana was in the First One

“It’s been reported that Disney is going to develop a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” film with Margot Robbie set to star. While a commendable move to center a franchise on a female character, I question why Disney picked a white woman rather than a woman of color, especially when Hollywood is being put on notice to increase BIPOC representation on film. What’s even more surprising is that Disney tapped Robbie to star in this forgetting that a prominent actress of color had already been featured in the original franchise.”

How Movies Bridge Racial Divides

Recently, I wrote about the need to be comforted by movies during Covid-19. It’s a sad irony that so soon I feel the need to be challenged by them, but the moment calls for it.

Growing into 'The Color Purple'

“I see myself, when I wake up and realize that I’m home and I’m not alone, and that I have a voice. That’s me shouting that I am a proud, successful, light skin, Bi-Sexual, Jewish, Black Woman, and I’m going to FIGHT for my voice to be heard. That’s what growing into The Color Purple is.”

Diversity on Netlfix: Breaking Barriers by Climbing Mountains, No Matter How Small

“Luckily, overcast clouds transformed into a spits of drizzle and downpours, leaving me feeling justified in my two day Netflix binge. With minimal movement from my couch I enveloped three shows; #blackAF, Never Have I Ever, and Hollywood. Each with quite different styles, target demographics, and storylines; I found a common thread throughout all of them; equality in entertainment.”

Be a Guide, Not a Gatekeeper

One of the more infamous examples of gatekeeping in recent memory is how toxic Star Wars ‘fans’ harassed and attacked the cast members of the recent Star Wars films. Passion for something you love is valid and understandable. However, the instant that anyone attempts to use that passion to attack others or to claim agency over a given work, it ceases to be a good thing.
